Did the Hall make the right Call?

In case you haven't heard by now, Andre Dawson will be going into the Hall of Fame wearing a Montreal Expos hat (eh?...they are now the Washington Nationals). Even though the Cubs were Dawson's preference, the Hall elected (no pun intended) to go a different direction by preserving the history of the game.

So Expo fans everywhere, REJOICE! Your team lives on!!!

In other news, if you haven't read Brad's post about the luck of the Cubs, please do so here. I am directing you to this because a)Brad really blew me away with his compilation of data and b)it leads me to think of this next question; are the Cubs the worst team in baseball history?

  1. Hmmm... Interesting question. I think it would depend on how you define the worst. Is it all-time W% or World Series championships? The Cubs were highly successful pre-1950s with a large number of WS championships and appearances, but had a decent W% after that, with few playoff appearances.

I don't know, maybe I could make that the focus of my next study...

  2. Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Issue is, you have to compare them to similar teams (teams that have played as many games, been in existence as long as the Cubs). I can only think of some and I dont know if they're entirely applicable:
    White Sox
    Red Sox

Obviously, new(er) teams like the Marlins wouldn't be included.
